Dismas International

Dismas International is a death row ministry initiative named after St. Dismas, who was the penitent thief crucified next to Jesus, and is the patron saint of condemned criminals. We provide spiritual support and penfriends for men and women on death row.

35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. (Matthew 25:35-36)

We also distribute death penalty news and information, facilitate penfriends for death row inmates, and engage in some advocacy on death penalty issues. But our primary focus is prayer and spiritual support.

And before anybody asks, yes of course we care about the victims of crime, and we support anything that can be done to support them. But we feel strongly about extending compassion to the most unloved and most outcast in society. And there are few in society that are more unloved and more outcast than those who are in prison. Especially those who are on death row.

Dismas International is a completely separate organisation to Dismas Project Inc, which is a USA-based prison ministry that has been operating since 1964. But we fully support their work, and we encourage you to support them as well.

Dismas International was founded in 2014.
